Renew a business name registration

Key points:

  • You must renew your business name registration if you want to keep carrying on a business using that name.
  • Registration can be renewed for 1 year or 3 years. If you do not renew your business name ASIC may cancel it.

Before you start

You will need your business name renewal notice. This is sent to you at least 30 days before your registration renewal is due. It’s usually sent by email.

A renewal notice looks like this (PDF 171 KB).

There are two ways you can renew your business name:

  1. Renew using ‘Business name renewal’

If you only need to renew your business name, we recommend our ‘Business name renewal’ service.

  1. Renew using your ASIC Connect account

If you also need to review and update your business name details, renew your business name and make any changes with ASIC Connect.

Renewal notice missing or lost

We send renewal notices by email. If you have not received yours, check your spam or junk folder.

If someone else registered your business name, they may have recorded their email address. If so, we will send the renewal notice to them. You should ask them if they have received it.

If we do not have an email address recorded, we will send a paper notice to your .

If there is no email or you have lost the renewal notice, contact us online and ask us to send it again. Tell us:

  • your name
  • your business name
  • the account number for your business name
  • your email address
  • your contact phone number.

You should receive your notice within 5 business days.
